Preventative Care for a Long and Healthy Life
North Haledon Veterinary Care believes in the value of preventative care to maintain your pet’s good health. Our team offers wellness checkups, whether you are bringing your pet for their yearly physical examination, they have just joined your household, or you have any concern about their well-being. These visits are great ways for us to get to know your pet and to discuss their vaccination status with you.
If it is your pet’s first time with us, we recommend that you bring any medical history you have for them. We welcome you and your pet to our office in central Passaic County Monday through Saturday. If you would like to have a pricing quote for specific services, feel free to ask us on the day of your appointment or call us beforehand.

Support Your Pet’s Well-Being with Yearly Checkups
If you have any questions about your pet’s health or have noticed changes in their behavior or their body, make sure to bring them up during their routine examination. If nothing has changed or your pet is doing great, let us know too! These appointments help us monitor your pet’s health and knowing that they were doing great during the previous year gives us a comparison basis if anything changes.
A yearly physical examination usually includes:
- Taking your pet’s temperature to make sure they don’t have a fever
- Performing a manual examination of your pet’s legs to check for stiffness and other signs of arthritis or other joint issues
- Palpating your pet’s abdomen to check for abnormalities or pain
- Checking your pet’s skin and hair for signs of infection or external parasites
- Listening to the heart and lungs
- Inspecting eyes, ears, and mouth
If your pet is due for any vaccination, we will take care of this during the visit. We can perform most screenings or lab work at our office, often with same-day results. Our staff members can also review your pet’s prescriptions and determine if dosage or type of medication needs modification.
Keep Your Pet’s Vaccinations Up to Date
Vaccinations protect your pet against a broad variety of contagious and deadly diseases. Most puppies and kittens need several shots during their first months when they are particularly vulnerable. After their first year, the frequency and types of their routine shots will depend on their age and lifestyle.
Common pet vaccinations are:
Dogs
Cats
- Rabies
- Leptospirosis
- Canine Bordetella (kennel cough)
- Lyme Disease
- Canine Influenza (CIV)
- Distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, and parainfluenza (DAPP)
- Rabies
- Feline distemper
- Feline leukemia (FeLV)
If you have recently moved to New Jersey or are about to relocate to another state or country, your pet may require additional vaccination per the rules of your new place of residency.
